SCC is recruiting hosts for regional Sustainable Societies Academy™

Designed for highly motivated high school students, the Sustainable Societies Academy provides an engaging introduction to and preparation for further sustainability studies. The program developed by the Sustainability Curriculum ConsortiumTM utilizes resources from the Environic Foundation International (EFI) and features leading faculty and professionals from UPenn, Harvard, CUNY, and other programs. During the week-long experience at Poly Prep, in-class sessions will introduce key concepts and principles and present real-world examples emphasizing the interdependence of environmental protection, economic development and social justice — the three dimensions of sustainability. An off-site field exploration will examine the natural and built environment in the NYC region. A set of pre-Academy online readings from the comprehensive EFI library will be provided to accelerate and enhance entry into the program.
SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES ACADEMY WILL HELP YOU:
- Learn the basic concepts and principles of sustainability through college-level presentations,
small group discussions, interactive workshops, and site visits.
- Deepen your understanding of sustainability issues and trends while focusing on valuable
skills that encourage you to be an agent for change.
- Design sustainability strategies that you can apply to challenges in your own school
and community.
- Begin to build your sustainability network of peers and mentors.
