Brian Filiatraut is Director of Sustainability at the Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, NY. He has eleven years experience of extensive, hands-on instructional training, long-term project management and leadership, partnership development, and environmental research and analysis. He aims to reduce consumption, streamline processes, and improve quality of life through the use of innovative and sustainable solutions. At Poly, Brian has been leading efforts to lower school’s footprint on its two campuses by working with administration, operations, buildings and grounds, and maintenance while incorporating into student curriculum; leading sustainability programing across three school divisions (K-12) and within each department through curricular design and support, extracurricular activities, and school-wide events; and, teaching Environmental Science (11,12) and MS Science (7). At Columbia University’s Earth Institute, Brian researched and analyzed sustainability metrics and indices used by private companies, governmental agencies, and non-governmental organizations in ESG reporting and co-authored the report, “The Growth of Sustainability Metrics.” Brian holds an MPA in Environmental Policy & Science from Columbia University. Brian hosted the pilot offering of the Sustainable Societies Academy ™ at Poly Prep in the summer of 2016 and contributed to the curriculum design and taught several core modules.
